A welcoming playground outside an exciting entertainment precinct invites people to have fun from the moment they step out of their car.
To a child, a playground gives countless moments of pleasure to treasure. To a parent, it allows them to watch their child develop. To a property developer, it can be an opportunity to make the most of a previously underutilised space. This was the case for Xscape in Castleford, Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. The interior of the leisure complex is crammed with interesting and innovative activities, but the exterior needed some added sparkle. The answer turned out to be a brightly coloured toddlers play area to complement the exciting opportunities inside awaiting siblings and elders.
A new playground for an innovative entertainment centre
Opposite the main door to Xscape, the pirate ship boasts a raised mast to survey one's surroundings. Around it a single spinner bowl awaits a young guest, and a multispinner carousel is ready for five little spinners. There's also a climbing frame and sway alley for the more adventurous, a see-saw for those with a friend and a bright blue dolphin springer. This colourful, compact selection of equipment gives a warm welcome to the entertainment centre.
This space was dead space. Now there’s a sort of vibrancy to the area and a sense of theatre.
