The municipality of Billund wished to create a new and attractive urban space whilst respecting the existing architecture in Grindsted's city center. The main objective was to attract more visitors to the city center and to invite the visitors across generations to stay longer, and in that way strengthen the city’s business life and the overall activity level in Grindsted.
A KOMPAN solution became the answer to the municipality’s wishes.
The final solution became a narrative play course that unfolds a story as you go down the street. At the end it takes you to the landmark “Kæmpespiren” – Grindsted’s new landmark that aims to draw people to the city centre. The play course invites everybody to explore the story and to be challenged by the different elements in the play course.
New city centre in Grindsted
The solution became a narrative play course that leads users to “Kæmpespiren” – Grindsted’s new landmark that aims to draw people to the city from near and far.
Along the play course you can find large organic lounge furniture perfect for people-watching or for when you need to take a break from playing!
The main attraction, the large green Sprout, shoots its way through the street leaving behind a trail in the surfacing. The green rope and nets allow you to climb to the top of the green Sprout. From here, 3 meters up, you have a fantastic view. The Sprout has room for numerous children playing. A fireman’s pole is the quick way to get down again for those who dare.
The story of the play course can be interpreted in many ways, which gives a new and exciting experience each time.
THE PLAY AREA SHOULD CREATE LIFE AND ACTIVITY IN THE CENTRE OF GRINDSTED, WHICH I ALREADY THINK IT DOES. THE ELEMENTS THAT KOMPAN SUGGESTED TO BE A PART OF THE AREA ARE WORKING, AND THE GREEN SPROUT HAS ALREADY BECOME QUITE A LANDMARK.
