KOMPAN Australia announces five schools to receive Matched Funding Grants

KOMPAN Australia has announced five schools as recipients of grants to improve their play and fitness spaces

KOMPAN Australia is delighted to announce the five schools in Victoria and Western Australia to receive grants in round one of our inaugural Matched Funding Grant Program. As an Australian-first initiative within the playground sector, this program aims to assist education providers including private and public primary and secondary schools, specialist schools, kindergartens, pre-schools and early learning centres build, improve or replace their playgrounds or fitness spaces. The application process required to entrants to brainstorm and detail their dream play or fitness space, and explain the impact that realising that dream would have on the students and wider school community.

Managing Director of KOMPAN Australia Peter McKewen was generally pleased with the quality of applications. "Our goal as a company is to create happier and healthier communities, and education providers play a crucial role in achieving this goal. We're excited to partner with the 2019 Matched Funding Grant Program recipients and get started on creating some great spaces for their current and future students."

GRANT RECIPIENTS - VICTORIA

Strathmore Primary School
Strathmore Primary School is a co-educational p-6 school in Melbourne's northwest serving the local catchment of Essendon and surrounding areas. With new building works resulting in the removal of the school's previous main play area, there is currently one playground that's shared by 500 students. The School's facilities, including the oval, basketball courts and a newly completed competition-grade sports stadium are open to the public. This means the school's new playground will be a win for the local community as well as the student body.

Warrnambool Special Development School
As Warrnambool Special Development School prepare to move into their brand-new purpose-built site in term 4, 2019, there is a unique opportunity to deliver inclusive, age-appropriate spaces where the students can develop, socialise, learn about living an active and healthy lifestyle, and most of all have fun. As the only special school serving the Warrnambool region, a universally designed, accessible space is eagerly anticipated by the staff and students.

St Leonard's Catholic Primary School
St Leonard’s is a co-educational parish school in Glen Waverley in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. Year 5 and 6 students from the school contributed to what was an extremely creative application. With a pre-fabricated Triceratops located in the school grounds, St Leonard’s students are dreaming of a wild dinosaur-themed play space.

GRANT RECIPIENTS - WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Burrendah Primary School
Burrendah Primary School is located south of Perth's Swan River. Amongst its student body of 700, more than half speak a language other than English at home, so the school grounds are an important meeting point for the school community. The school is looking to create a space where senior students (8 to 11 years) can take risks and develop resilience in a safe environment. Burrendah Primary School shares a common oval with the adjacent Castlereagh School, a purpose-built school for children with disabilities. An inclusive, challenging play space is something the older students of both schools would gain significant benefits from.

Hannan's Primary School
With 400 children representing 21 nationalities, Hannan's Primary School has a diverse student population, and is one of the larger primary schools in the Goldfields region. It was clear from the writing and drawings from Hannan's students in their application that they have a strong desire for a space where they can climb. Staff are brainstorming how their new playground can be utilised as an asset for physical education and for outdoor learning.

All grant recipients will now receive 50%, 35% or 25% matched funding on their playground or fitness equipment up to a maximum value of $30,000. KOMPAN will continue to post updates on the status of each project as they progress.

Round 2 of the Matched Funding Grant Program is now open for applications. For eligibility information, terms and conditions, or to submit an application, visit www.kompan.com.au/matchedfunding2019.
