At the World EXPO 2015, the Brazilian government wanted a pavilion that would highlight Brazil as one of the world’s largest food producers, underscore the need for balance between nature and humankind, and give spectators the kind of unprecedented show they would expect from a country like Brazil.
The idea of the Architect was to provide visitors with an experience that transmit Brazilian values and aspirations of its agriculture and the nature. Working with the concept of connections – a network of connections – the architect contracted KOMPAN to supply a 160-metre COROCORD net. Forming a wave-like structure, the net was to communicate the sense of balance needed to actually walk it. The same balance needed to walk with nature. Walking around the net, 7 metres above the ground, provided an amazing sense of floating, and entertained and inspired thousands of people, who every day visited the Brazilian Pavillion at the EXPO.
Architect Carmela Rocha from Atelier Marco Brajovic states that the process was very exciting and adds, “Developing a project like this was really challenging. Especially because of the quantity and diversity of people involved: engineers, architects, planners, producers, installation people and more, all working together to achieve our goal. And I can say we made it.
KOMPAN has been the ideal partner on the whole process giving us not only the desired outcome, but high professionality and accountancy along the process. We are really happy and touched by the result: people are really having fun and interacting with the Brazilian Pavilion”.
The World largest Climbing Net Entertains and Inspires
In fact, the net ended up being the largest climbing net in the world – making it quite an experience for people of any age.
