Winnererremy Bay Regional Playground, Mona Vale
Operated by Pittwater Council & known locally as ‘Flying Fox’ park this fantastic regional facility has recently been voted ‘the best playground in Sydney’ by readers of Sydney magazine. The master planning for this site was carried out by Ian Jackson Landscape Architect & the main designer was Mark Eriksson Senior Landscape Architect for Pittwater Council. Created in stages over a period of around four years, this site is a bench mark design for the Regional Playground concept.
Features include: A large bike path that is used by children & adults for skating etc. A large, open grass area for ball games. A creative sculpture garden with many mature trees, sandstone sculptures & planting beds. A combination of play equipment that provides for all ages in well defined areas for younger children, school children & teenagers, including a 6m high ‘Spacenet’ & a 30m long flying fox.
More recent additions to the site include a cafeteria with alfresco dining areas, electric barbecues with shade structures and full shade covering for more than half the site using ‘shade sails’. The site is now very heavily used both during the week & on weekends with many of the visitors traveling considerable distances to use the facilities.
