Play and health

When children play, they thrive. When children play freely outdoors it benefits their physical, social and emotional health.

Today more than ever it is the responsibility of adults to see to that children’s right to play outdoors is respected. Not least because of the obesity and overweight epidemic is growing rapidly world wide these years. The World Health Organization estimates that 1.7 billion people are overweight and at least 300 millions are obese.

The amount of people suffering from severe overweight has doubled in many third world countries, and has increased by 10-40 per cent in the industrial countries over the last 10-15 years.

In children overweight, bad physical condition, and cases of obesity have grown dramatically during the last decade. We have reached the point when governments call for action to stop overweight and obesity as these conditions are estimated to be the biggest health risk we have today.
