KOMPAN FREEGAME Specifications

KOMPAN FREEGAME is a multisport system from KOMPAN designed according to a set of specially defined specifications to meet the demands of future multisport systems all over the world.

Choice of materials and production technologies
The choice of materials for each component in the system is based on a set of rules that implicates:

  1. Mechanical demands such as strength, elasticity, impact and wear resistance.
  2. Physical demands such as climatic strength (moisture, rot, ozone, UV radiation, corrosion, temperature fluctuations), colourability and manufacturability.
  3. Environmental demands such as recycling potential – meaning parts have no critical contents, e.g. heavy metal based UV stabilizers, and no PVC.
  4. Visual demands such as surface texture, range of gloss, lowest possible degree of fading under exposure of sunlight, no major colour changes due to wear (coloured through materials) equals less maintenance.
  5. High consideration to the users with regard to resilience and textures of surfaces, heat conduction, rounding of edges, etc.

KOMPANs product development strategy is not limited by any demands of in-house manufacturing, which means that we have been free to incorporate state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies.

 

Metal Plast · Components and materials
Poles are made of hot-dip galvanized steel with diameters of 101, 90 and 76 mm (thickness of 3 to 3.65 mm) ensuring the strength and alignment of the enclosure. They are bolted into a beam or foundation blocks.

Crossbars are made of hot-dip galvanized steel with a diameter of 48 x 2.3 mm. They ensure rigidity, and are themselves reinforced by multiple anchors and cross braces at the top of the arches.

Goals are made of hot-dip galvanized steel.

Basketball goals are made of hot-dip galvanized steel.

Nets are made of PA.

Panels are made of 19 mm thick UV-stabilized, coloured-through polyethylene sheets, textured on both sides, with rounded edges. The 2 multifunction posts, bolted to the exterior of the play area, have a central net with 4 different heights (tennis, badminton, volleyball). The tensioning mechanism of the central net is vandal-proof.

Foundation -  All metal posts are mounted in 400 x 400 x 600 mm concrete blocks.

General -  All the metal-to-metal contacts are cushioned with neoprene anti-noise and anti-vibration joints. Regular provision of openings in the gripping cross sections allows surface water to run off due to the slope. The density of the posts contributes to the strength of the assembly.

The presence of several welded-on support brackets allows the flexible polyethylene panels to agitate so that the framework absorbs all the shocks received without creating vibrations to the structure.

 

Wood - Components and materials
Poles are made of metal coated powder painted steel with dimensions of 100 x 50 x 3 mm ensuring the strength and alignment of the enclosure. They are bolted into a beam or foundation blocks.

Metal frames of 50 x 40 x 2 mm ensure rigidity, and are themselves reinforced with vertical braces. The main function of the metal frames is to take in and absorb the shocks transmitted by the wood filling, when e.g. footballs are hitting the walls.

Metal frames of 3 m x 2 m (100 x 50 x 3 mm).

Metal basket gantries (100 x 50 x 3mm).

Basket supports are made of plywood covered in glass fibre.

Metal covers (4 mm thick) on the top of all posts.

Handrails are made of tropical hardwood from controlled and certified forestry, 30 x 120 mm. The handrails act as a seating area as well as protection. They are fixed to the upper crossbar of the metal frames. The covers welded to each post protect and conceal the joints between 2 sections of the handrail.

Wooden panels are made of pressure-impregnated class IV pine, built onto the metal framework to which they transmit the shocks.

Paintwork is made in four stages:

  1. Shot blasting: Pressure blasting with metal particles to create tiny surface irregularities ensuring better adhesion of subsequent applications.
  2. Metal coating: Pressure spraying of zinc to a thickness of 60 to 80 microns (i.e. a layer 2 to 3 times thicker than normal hot-dip galvanizing). Sanding and blowing.
  3. Polyester powdering: Thickness of 140 to 160 microns.
  4. Oven curing: 220°C.


All the versions of the wood products have a blue (RAL 5010) thermo-lacquered metal structure.

The result at the end of this treatment is a 200-240 micron protective layer, guaranteed for 10 years.

The 2 multifunction posts, bolted to the exterior of the play area, have a central net with 4 different heights (tennis, badminton, volleyball). The tensioning mechanism are mounted on the net.

The goal backs (3 x 2 m) integrated into the arches are designed for polyethylene nets (45 x 45 mm mesh) held at the frame by welded rings. A horizontal bar fixed to the posts and bolted to the ground in the middle provides support in the lower part. The goal entrances have 4 welded (anti-moped joyriding) barriers, one of which is removable for maintenance and easy access.

Foundation – All metal posts are mounted in 400 x 400 x 600 mm concrete blocks.

The synthetic grass is sanded at a ratio of 25 to 30 kg/m2. It is bonded at the joints between strips and held at the edge by the gripping cross sections of the enclosure.

All-sport white lining as goal lines, centre and penalty areas or basketball or tennis is provided according to manufacturer recommendations. In all cases, the sanded grass allows proper bouncing for basketball and tennis.
